Under OSHA 1910.136(a) requires that employers shall provide protective footwear for employees when they are working in conditions or could have exposure to work conditions where there is the danger and possibility of foot injury due to falling objects, rolling objects or when an object could puncture footwear. Employers are thus required to prevent the proper footwear when these conditions exist. These conditions certainly do exist in many work environments. Steel Toe boots and steel toe shoes can be purchased at the relative same costs as Plain Toe boots while providing additional protection to the foot.
